RS Stories Author Blurb Guide

Writing a catchy blurb is all about teasing your story in a way that hooks readers emotionally and leaves them wanting more. Whether it’s for a book, story app, or online listing, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you craft one that sparkles:

craft your story. share your voice.

1. Start with a Hook

Grab attention in the first sentence. Ask a provocative question, drop a bold statement, or hint at a twist.

Examples:

• She thought she buried the past—until it knocked on her door.

• Two hearts. One secret. Zero chance of escape.

2. Introduce the Main Character

Give readers someone to root for. Mention their name, role, and what makes them compelling.  Example:

Lia, a rebellious heiress, is tired of playing by the rules—especially when her heart wants the enemy.

3. Tease the Conflict

What’s at stake? What challenge or tension drives the story? Keep it juicy but don’t spoil the ending.  Example:

When a forbidden romance threatens to unravel a centuries-old alliance, Lia must choose between love and legacy.

4. Match the Tone to the Genre

5. End with a Cliffhanger or Temptation

Your blurb should feel like your story.

If it’s romantic, make it swoony.

If it’s suspenseful, build tension.

If it’s fantasy, evoke wonder.

5. End with a Cliffhanger or Temptation

5. End with a Cliffhanger or Temptation

5. End with a Cliffhanger or Temptation

Leave readers curious. Make them feel like they have to know what happens next.

Example:

But when the truth comes out, will love be enough to survive the fallout?
